About us
In 1994 Arvydas Sabonis established the basketball school of his name, which main purpose is to propagate basketball as one of the most popular kind of sport, to raise basketball players of the highest qualification, to prepare them for different national teams of Lithuania, to keep improving our players’ physical and spiritual live, to take care of young people social problems.
There are more than 800 young basketball players in our school at the moment. They are coached by the coaches, who all have higher education in basketball training and pedagogical qualification. It is one of the largest basketball schools in Lithuania, as well as in Europe. Our basketball school has been existing only for 10 years, but our players have already filled up NBA, Lithuanian Basketball League's, Lithuanian Student’s league’s teams and clubs in foreign countries. It is great that our best players have the opportunity to go straight to “Žalgiris” or “Žalgiris” junior team – Martynas Andriuškevičius (NBA, Cleveland Cavaliers), Giedrius Gustas (BBL, Barons/LU, Latvia) Artūras Masiulis (BBL, BC Šiauliai, Lithuania), Jonas Mačiulis, Vilmantas Dilys, Andrius Aleksandrovas, Paulius Jankūnas, Darius Šilinskis (Euroleague, BC Žalgiris Kaunas, Lithuania), Justas Pavlavičius, Valdas Dabkus (both BBL, Livu Alus, Latvia), Rolandas Alijevas (BC Boncourt, Switzerland). More than 20 pupils study in U.S. colleges.
Our school’s teams take part in the Lithuanian Schoolchildren Basketball Championships, EYBL, Kaunas Amateur Basketball Leagues, plenty of international tournaments and very often become champions or prizewinners. For last couple of years our school has constanly been ranked among the leaders in Lithuanian Schoolchildren Basketball League's rankings. And we are very pleased that for international tournaments’ organizers it is a great honour to invite our school teams to their respectful events.
